About Us

Our History

Since its original Board meeting in 1976 held at the home of Phyllis W. Johnson, Virginia Community Bank hasn’t wavered from its original aim: friendly, personalized service for our community members. A. Pierce Stone, the original bank president, retired in 2011, and still serves as Chairman of the Board, while A. Preston Moore, Jr. now serves as our president.

Of our seven branch locations, Louisa branch is the oldest, opening September 10, 1976, in a mobile unit featuring a below-floor vault. The building for the current Louisa branch was built in 1981, and the mobile unit was transferred to Mineral to start our second branch. From there, Bank of Louisa continued to grow and changed its name to Virginia Community Bank in 1984, as we formed the bank holding company Virginia Community Bankshares and became part of the Federal Reserve System.

Since our humble beginning, we’ve striven to serve the community by growing to seven branches, with 750,000 outstanding shares and 7,500 customers, 68 employees and $206 million in assets.
