Since its original Board meeting in 1976 held at the home of Phyllis W. Johnson, Virginia Community Bank hasn’t wavered from its original aim: friendly, personalized service for our community members. A. Pierce Stone, the original bank president, retired in 2011, and still serves as Chairman of the Board, while A. Preston Moore, Jr. now serves as our president.
Of our seven branch locations, Louisa branch is the oldest, opening September 10, 1976, in a mobile unit featuring a below-floor vault. The building for the current Louisa branch was built in 1981, and the mobile unit was transferred to Mineral to start our second branch. From there, Bank of Louisa continued to grow and changed its name to Virginia Community Bank in 1984, as we formed the bank holding company Virginia Community Bankshares and became part of the Federal Reserve System.
Since our humble beginning, we’ve striven to serve the community by growing to seven branches, with 750,000 outstanding shares and 7,500 customers, 68 employees and $206 million in assets.
Virginia Community Bank is committed to providing superior banking products and services to all customers in a friendly, courteous and professional manner, while perpetuating wealth building for the shareholders and employees.
Our vision is to be the community bank of choice, one that has the reputation as not only a community-building asset, but with employees who take the time to value each transaction with you. Respect, honor and warmth set us apart.
Customer service at the very foundation of each of our decisions; it is our driving motivation.
We are proud that all loan decisions are made locally. Integrity is the groundwork of our bank, and we are honest, professional trustworthy, confidential and respectful in all communications.
We operate a bank that we want as part of our lives as customers, as well. Therefore, we continually look to improve our services to make sure we are offering the best products.
Our employees are caring and generous. We encourage them to spend time in the community, volunteering for their favorite causes. Last year alone, our employees spent countless hours volunteering in our community.
Together, that is what makes us “Your True Community Bank.”
